Just Give Me Jesus!

Posted by Scott on March 15, 2008

Can we say “Just give me Jesus” is the desire of our hearts?  A few years ago we had experienced the financial success, the nice cars, influence, large amounts of fame and fortune….then our world went the opposite direction.  Life began to fall apart.  Our closeness with the Lord had grown luke-warm at best and God does not like luke-warmness from His people.  As time would have it we lost just about everything we had except our family.  The result of this turmoil in our lives has been a transformation in the greatest of terms.  We began to really seek out our Lord through His scriptures and studying under some of the greatest expositorial teachers of our times.  We have spent a great deal of time studying and meditating on the Psalms.  When life turns dark for you the book of Psalm is a great place to park yourself for a while.  Let the Lord minister to you there.  He will speak volumes through this great book.  King David gives his tremendous accounts and experiences of his heart throughout Psalm…so clearly you can place yourself in his shoes (sandals in his case).

“Praise the Lord, all you nations; extol Him, all you peoples.  For great is His love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever.  Praise the Lord.”

-Psalm 117

Jesus got rid of everything that was competing for His attention.  Once the “mess”, for the sake of not using a more descriptive word, in our life was cleared away we found a beautiful Savior waiting for us with open arms.  The relationship, the closeness, the love we have experienced cannot be described in words.  I cannot tell you today that this has been easy and at times it has been downright depressing, but we have never been abandoned by our God for one instance and the plans He has for our life must be a great one, because what we have been through is absolutely unbelievable at times.  Each day our Lord speaks to us through His scripture, His people, and the circumstances surrounding us…with His direction in our lives we are confident in His greater glory in the end.  Our love for Him is greater than it has ever been.  This relationship with our Lord has never been closer, fresher, more meaningful, or real in our lives than it is right now.  Our prayers are that this relationship will only grow closer, fresher,  genuine, and real until Christ return to take us back to His glorious heaven with Him.

“As the Father has loved Me, so have I loved you.  Now remain in My love.  If you obey My commands, you will remain in My love, just as I have obeyed my Father’s commands and remain in His love.  I have told you this so that My joy may be in you and your joy may be complete.  My command is this:  Love each other as I have loved you.  Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.  You are my friends if you do what I command.”

-John 15:9-14

Our daily passion besides growing personally in our relationship to Christ and making sure our children are able to experience this same kind of relationship as the see Him through us is to share this good news with anyone else reading.  This is a real relationship that anyone who accepts Jesus Christ as Savior can have.  It is not something you can “try out” for a while to “see if it works”.  Real loving and life long relationships are not developed that way nor will one with Jesus be developed the same way.  If you are at all compelled to want to learn more it could be the Holy Spirit at work in your life to draw you closer to a real authentic relationship with Jesus Christ.  We are not speaking about religion, church, rules, rituals, or anything of that sort….we are speaking about true Christianity which starts with embracing Jesus Christ as your Savior.  From that point on your desires will change as Christ helps to change your wants and goals in life to be in line with His plan for your life.  Salvation is by grace (gift) through faith in Jesus Christ….it does NOT take any works on your part at all.  Once this faith is exhibited to Christ, He has promised to come into your life and begin the transforming work which is to know Him, glorify Him, and further His kingdom.  The works is the fruit of your salvation.  It tells us in Romans that none of us is good enough for salvation in and of ourselves.  We cannot do good enough works, enough good works or anything of the sort in order to be saved.  It is impossible to keep ALL the commandments throughout life…this is why Jesus had to come and be sacrificed in order for us to be worthy before our holy heavenly Father as the fulfillment of the law.  Life and death eternally all hinges on our response to the call of Christ to accept Him.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.  For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.  Whoever believes in Him is not condemned…”

-John 3:16-18

We invite all you who hear the call of Christ to come and accept Him and start the transforming life found only through faith in Jesus Christ.  All I can tell you is that it is a life that you will never regret.  It will not be lived with ease, but you can have peace.  It is not a life that is always a happy one, but you will always be able to find true joy.  With Christ you will have the freedom to live for Him as before you could not live for Him as you have not known Him.  It will be a life that finally has a perfect purpose in living out the plan of God with complete obedience to His calling upon your life.

At the end of the day I can truthfully say, “Just give me Jesus”!

“I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes Him (the Father) who sent Me (Jesus) has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life”.

-John 5:24

However, I am still learning more about what this means and how my life needs more change in order to continue to grow deeper in my walk and faith in Christ.
