*Training Our Daughters in Purity!

Training Our Daughters in Purity

It is no secret that purity is not being taught enough to our young kids any more.  The pregnancy rate among young girls is only getting worse.  And the age of girls getting pregnant is getting younger & younger each year.  Can you imagine your 10 year old daughter pregnant?  I can’t, but they are out there.  Satan is out to steal our children’s purity.  As mothers we must teach our daughters the importance of remaining a virgin in all physical and emotional ways until they are married.  Today, it is to not just keep them pure for their future husband, it is too keep them healthy also.  There are diseases that can be caught just from kissing much less the obvious ones from being with multiple partners.  This is such an accepted way of life, a passage into adulthood, that to teach against premarital sex once again puts me on the outside of normal according to society. One approach we have taken with our children is to talk to them about what they are doing to their future mate if they chose to be in a physical relationship before they were married.  Saving their self emotionally and physically for their husband is like giving him a gift that no one else has opened.  Does he not deserve her whole heart?  When she stands before her friends and family on her wedding day and she says her vows she wants to bring only her whole self to her husband, not just what is left over after giving pieces of it away to other boys.  Saving her body for her husband is part of God’s plan for marriage.  Just like he wants our whole heart, our husbands deserve our whole heart also.

-From A Dad: Saving the Boys! Proverbs 2:1-11

To save our boys we need to give them excellent role models to immolate.  Once they are given the proper role models they will then know how to have a good marriage and how to be a good father.  These are the fathers of tomorrow we are raising, guys.  As a dad I need to be a strong biblical role model for them.  My boys need to see me as their dad reading his bible, praying, serious at times, laughing at other times, helping other people, serving, living according to the bible, doing what is right even if it is a hard choice, and so on.  I deal with speed, stops signs, seat belts and red lights all the time when the kids are in the car with me….this is an area I am working on….ha…ha…ha!

“My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.”           -Proverbs 2:1-5 NIV

We as dads have such a short time with these boys.  To bring them up to be strong respectable men.  My oldest son is 14 years old.  He thinks himself to be a man and ready to make manly decisions.  As much as I would like to think he is ready I know he is not.  So, with the 4 years I have left I have alot of training sessions to work on with him.  As his dad I must instruct him in the ways of the Lord even if he does not seem to listen.  I cannot beat it into him, but God’s word must be presented to him every chance God gives me.  I found the other day five goals to saving our boys by Steve Farrar as their father it is my job to model for them the importance of:

*knowing and obeying Jesus Christ

*knowig and displaying godly character

*knowing and love my wife

*knowing and loving my children

*knowing my gifts and abilities, so I can work hard and effectively in an area of strength, rather than weakness and contribute effectively to the lives of others and have a little fun at the same time.

“For the Lord gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.”           -Proverbs 2:6 NIV

If I as these boys dad will be faithful to God’s word and fill my boys up on His word I can rest assured it will not return void when they are adults and have families.  He guards the path of the righteous and protects the trail of those faithful to Him.  Our boys need to hear this often.  We need to remind these boys of God’s divine hand upon their lives and that He is working His plan in their lives.  For most boys now days they never hear that God even cares for them much less that He has a plan for their lives.  Proverbs 2:10 tells us that “wisdom will enter your heart and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.”  It is this “pleasantness in God” that us dads need to desire for our boys to understand and experience.  If they can have a deep loving relationship with Christ early on, they will have a fighting chance as a successful father and husband in their adult years.  Without the Lord in the very center of their being they have no chance.  Success is defined here as raising upstanding kids and staying married to the same gal for all their lives….does not matter about the money, homes, cars, or retirement accounts.  All that matters is that when we enter heaven and our sons and daughters enter heaven God can say of us “Well done my good and faithful servant, enter the Kingdom of Heaven.”  If that is not our goal for ourselves and our kids, then what other goal could we have?

-Private Moments in the Morning Are Priceless!

Posted by Scott on September 17, 2007

I know that us guys struggle with a private moment anytime of the day, but especially in the mornings.  Around my house I have to get up no later than 6 am in order to have several minutes of quiet and private to read God’s word, a book that I am reading, make the coffee, and so on…some mornings that is not early enough.  My mornings have become one of the most priceless parts of my day.

In order for me to prepare to go into spiritual battle each day, I as a dad, husband, and citizen must spend some of my morning in God’s holy word.  The put on my armor, so to speak.  If we are seeking God’s heart and favor on our lives and families lives, we will encounter a fierce battle(s).  This will be daily and in some cases hourly.  Our adversary, satan, does not intend that we rest or have time for God’s word each day.  This creates around us a hard shell that he has a hard time penetrating.  Without our battle gear on each day, the flaming arrows of our enemy would render us useless in battling this world between good and evil.  In Ephesians 6 the Lord speaks of what kind of armor we need to put on:

The Armor of God

10Finally, (S)be strong in the Lord and in (T)the strength of His might.

11(U)Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the (V)schemes of the devil.

12For our (W)struggle is not against (X)flesh and blood, but (Y)against the rulers, against the powers, against the (Z)world forces of this (AA)darkness, against the (AB)spiritual forces of wickedness in (AC)the heavenly places.

13Therefore, take up (AD)the full armor of God, so that you will be able to (AE)resist in (AF)the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.

14Stand firm therefore, (AG)HAVING GIRDED YOUR LOINS WITH TRUTH, and HAVING (AH)PUT ON THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS,

 15and having (AI)shod YOUR FEET WITH THE PREPARATION OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE;

16in addition to all, taking up the (AJ)shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the (AK)flaming arrows of (AL)the evil one.

17And take (AM)THE HELMET OF SALVATION, and the (AN)sword of the Spirit, which is (AO)the word of God.

18With all (AP)prayer and petition (AQ)pray at all times (AR)in the Spirit, and with this in view, (AS)be on the alert with all (AT)perseverance and (AU)petition for all the saints…

-NAS Version

As we guys strive to find that private moment or moments during our day just remember that it may take days or weeks to find it, but if we are seeking for that time with our Lord, I believe He will help us find it.  I prefer the mornings as Christ did, but I truly believe it is whenever you can carve out that time sacrificially that really counts.  There is no magic in what time of day it is, but a tremendous amount of spiritual power awaits you at whatever time you can get alone and in the quiet with our Lord.
